An investigation is currently being conducted by the Delaware State Police into a deadly collision that took place in New Castle and involved a pedestrian.
On Monday, at around 2:17 p.m., a GMC Savana driven by a man from Smyrna who was forty years old was travelling northbound in the left lane on South Dupont Highway near Heddington Road, according to the authorities. The pedestrian, identified as Sadhu Singh, who was 80 years old and from New Castle, made an effort to cross South Dupont Highway from the west side of the road to the east side of the road. The police said that he was not in a crosswalk that was intended for pedestrians and that he entered the left lane of traffic heading north directly into the path of the GMC. Although the driver made an effort to swerve to the right, the vehicle ended up colliding with the pedestrian.
There was no injury sustained by the driver of the GMC. The medical examiner pronounced Singh deceased at the scene.
During the approximately two and a half hours that the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit was conducting an investigation into the collision and clearing the route, South Dupont Highway was blocked.
