Camille Dennis-Bond sentenced to 15 years in 2021 fatal Burnsville racing crash

A Burnsville woman who was convicted of multiple charges was sentenced on Friday morning for her involvement in a mishap that occurred in April 2021 and resulted in the deaths of two people.

Camille Dennis-Bond, 21, was sentenced to 15 years (180 months) in prison by a judge for the accident that resulted in the deaths of 22-year-old Tayler Nicole Garza and 22-year-old Dalton Lee Ford. The incident occurred while Dennis-Bond was racing her brother. She will receive credit for 107 days of incarceration that she has already served.

Dennis-Bond was found guilty of criminal vehicular homicide, third-degree murder, criminal vehicular operation, and negligent driving.

What Happened?

On April 4, 2021, at approximately 10:30 a.m., a collision occurred on Country Road 42, which is situated between Burnsville Parkway and Newton Avenue. According to court documents, Dennis-Bond and her brother, Leon Bond, were racing when Bond’s vehicle collided with a vehicle that Ford and Garza were in. Bond’s vehicle was travelling at a speed of 93-100 mph at the time of the collision, according to an accident reconstruction report; the speed limit is 50 mph.

Prosecutors attempted to certify Bond as an adult, but they were unsuccessful due to his juvenile status. Subsequently, he entered a guilty plea to two counts of third-degree murder and was sentenced to probation with a 25-year prison sentence that was suspended.

Dennis-Bond and her mother both spoke in court prior to her sentencing, and numerous family members also addressed the court. Dennis-Bond’s attorney requested a reduction in the penalty and indicated that she was amenable to probation, while prosecutors had requested consecutive sentences totalling 25 years in prison.

Ultimately, the judge concluded that Dennis-Bond’s lack of a prior criminal history and the fact that her brother’s vehicle injured the victims, rather than her own, were factors that mitigated the imposition of consecutive sentences.
