About Keyona Willis
To be in love with Keyona is to know her. She was actually the most incredible mother who loved her sons so profoundly, as well as a daughter, sister, wife, and friend, and she had the most selfless, humble, kind, and intentional heart who truly loved people. The time you spent with her left you feeling loved, noticed, and heard since she was so intentional with you. This was true regardless of the topic. She was unlike anyone else in terms of her determination and her drive for life. In spite of the fact that she was going through the most excruciating pain she had ever experienced, she did not let it prevent her from living and from pouring her heart and soul into everyone she came in contact with on her journey through life. Her heart was the most beautiful thing in the world, but her voice was so angelic that it was like hearing a sound straight from heaven. She had a passion for singing and was without a doubt one of the most talented performers I’ve ever seen. She imparted her talent by educating and pouring herself into a large number of students, so assisting them in achieving their goals.

“…We have lost Keyona Willis, wonderful human being, talented vocalist, and teacher/mentor extraordinaire to cancer. She has been inspirational to so many of our students and faculty/staff. In addition to her wonderful teaching and singing skills, she connected with our students on a deeply human level. I have heard her students sing her praises (pun intended) as a mentor and express true gratitude for her friendship…” _T.J. Gerckens
“…Keyona Willis. She was such a beautiful soul, inside and out. Keyona was the embodiment of encouragement, patience, kindness, and genuine care for those around her. We first met 14 years ago when I was a student Ohio State. Keyona was pursuing her DMA. I’ll never forget the first time I heard her sing—it was breathtaking, like nothing I had ever experienced before. I remember telling my classmates, I wanted to be just like her…” _Destiny Coleman .
