Death; John Arthur Oetman Wayland, MI, resident died in tragic accident on October 3

John Arthur Oetman of Wayland, Michigan, and a beloved Christian and brother in the faith died on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the age of 54 in a tragic accident. He passed away from complications caused from the severe injuries he sustained in the accident. John treasured his faith, enjoyed life, and his family. He was a kind man who would always be the first to offer assistance to a neighbor. He was constantly moving, whether it was to attend church or family functions. He would go out cutting wood with pals every Saturday to make sure his supply never ran out. John took great pride in his family, particularly in his grandfather status. Everyone who knew him will sincerely miss him.

Along with his parents Larry and Arlene Oetman and brother-in-law Kevin Post, John is predeceased by his wife of thirty-one years, Shari Oetman; sons Tim (Shannon) Oetman, Nate Oetman, Ty (Kate Hoekwater) Oetman, and grandson, Dawson John; siblings, Donna Oetman, Bev Post, and Steve (Rayanna) Oetman; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m. is the visitation time at Wayland Christian Reformed Church, located at 303 E. Elm St., Wayland, MI 49348. Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. is the memorial ceremony honoring John’s life. A visitation will take place at Wayland Christian Reformed Church from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. In Leighton Township’s Hooker Cemetery, John will be buried in private. Donations to Hope Unexpected or Wayland CRC may be made in John’s honor in place of flowers.
