At approximately 4:52 p.m. on October 1, 2024, the State Police responded to reports of a two-car collision on I-87 northbound, north of the exit 14 off-ramp. The collision caused one vehicle to overturn multiple times. Makenzie T. Minkler, 25, of Rensselaer, NY, has been identified as the driver of the overturned vehicle. Minkler sustained grievous injuries during the collision and was subsequently transported to Saratoga Hospital, where she passed away.
The crash’s cause is currently being investigated. The northbound Exit 14 off-ramp and the right lane of I-87 northbound were closed for an estimated four hours to facilitate the collision reconstruction and investigation. Further traffic delays were caused by the secondary three-car collision, which was the result of vehicles reacting to the initial crash. The secondary collision did not result in any substantial injuries.
