Mike Bullard Etobicoke, ON, Death: stand-up comic and broadcaster died at 67 from Heart attack

Mike Bullard of Etobicoke, Ontario, Canadian stand-up comic and broadcaster has sadly died. The death has occurred at the age of 67 of Mike Bullard, a Canadian comedian and former talk show presenter. In an interview with Global News, his family stated that Bullard was discovered dead after what is believed to be a heart attack.

Prior to transitioning to television as a result of his success with standup comedy, Bullard began his career in the comedy industry by performing live standup at comedy clubs located all throughout the province of Ontario.

Bullard was born in Etobicoke, which is a suburb of Toronto at the time of his birth. The retail industry was his father’s occupation, and his mother was a housewife. His younger brother is Pat Bullard, who is a comedian, television writer, host, and producer located in the United States, and his older half-brother is Chuck Jackson, who served as the main singer for the Downchild Blues Band.

The Bullard family relocated from Don Mills, Ontario to Galt, which is now known as Cambridge, Ontario, when Bullard was six years old. They eventually relocated to Mississauga.

Bullard, who has lived in Mississauga since he was 14 years old, had a brief stint as a police officer with Peel Regional Police when he was younger. However, he left from his position because he was not allowed to moonlight in comedy clubs. After that, he went back to Bell Canada, where he had worked in the past, and eventually he was elevated to the position of associate director of corporate investigation. In addition, he continued to perform stand-up comedy on a part-time basis with Bell Canada. After his manager witnessed Bullard’s performance as an emcee at the Just for Laughs festival, he came to the conclusion that if Bullard was able to handle a crowd, he could also handle corporate investigations. This led to his promotion.

Following his initial appearance at the Toronto club in July 1988, Bullard has had a long-standing affiliation with the Yuk Yuk’s chain of comedy clubs, serving as both an emcee and a headliner throughout his career. Up until the very end of his life, he continued to do performances at Yuk Yuk’s events all around the province of Ontario.

His rise to notoriety began in 1997 when he was hired by CTV to host the late-night discussion show ‘Open Mike With Mike Bullard.’ He continued to host the show until 2003, when he was hired by Global Television to anchor ‘The Mike Bullard Show.’ 13 weeks were allotted for that program.

Due to the cancellation of his television show, Bullard transitioned into the world of radio. In the years after a few shows that were cancelled and a brief return to television, he found success as the host of “Beyond the Mic with Mike Bullard” on Newstalk 1010 in Toronto, where he remained from the year 2010 until the year 2016.

It was after he was charged with criminal harassment of a former romantic partner that he decided to leave his position at Newstalk 1010. 2018 marked the year that Bullard entered a guilty plea to one count of harassing communication.

As a result of his show titled “Open Mike With Mike Bullard,” Bullard was honored with two Gemini awards over his career. In recognition of his contributions to the community, he was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013. Following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022, Bullard went to Ukraine to volunteer with several humanitarian organizations that were operating in the nation.
